Mr. Bradford Immediately took the door and wa recognized by the chair. Mr. Bradford began his Bpeech by say ing that he had always voted the straight Democratic licket and declin ed that he had been faithful at all times, but that he saw there wag no chance of his selection lis constable in that convention as the "combina tion" was against dim and would therefore withdraw his iiaine.and thus be In position to exercise all the func tions o f "a free born American citi zen" "If I have any friends here ask them to vote for Mr. J. The Road Question. While the secretaries were out counting the votes some one suggest ed a speech, and In response to re pealed calls Mr. Watson took the floor. He began his speech hy saying that he was glad to see so many good Democrats present and hoped they would get to work and elect the ticket this fall. .He then took up the road question and discussed it for a few moments. He said that the proper solution of the question was in a non partisan . road commission and declared that any dissatisfaction now apparent, was due to a misunderstand ing of the purposes of the county commissioners. He said that evety road could not be macadamized a! once ami that the present commis sioners we.re working along the line that it was better lo build a few miles in each direction and that it would be only a matter of a few years before the principal roads of the coun ty would be macadamized.. At this point Dr. Fulp, of the aforesaid conn n of stokes prayed permission of the pinker to ask a question. Mr. Wai ion told him that he could not only ask one question but a thousand u tie mi wished. The Stokes county gentle man asked Mr. Watson If the road which leads by his (Fulpi home a not the most Important road in For syth as most of the tobacco from Siokea, Henry and Fianklln counties came that way. The .Winston school board has also been agitating the question of electing a new ami modern building for a high school.
